Following Council endorsement, the Draft Mobile Food Vending Policy and associated documents are now on exhibition for public comment until 17 March 2023.

The draft Mobile Food Vending Policy seeks to activate public spaces, increase diversity of food options, and boost the Blue Mountains’ night-time economy.

Importantly, any introduction of mobile food vending vehicles into Council owned or managed land will have fair, consistent and robust systems in place to ensure the program is safe, equitable, environmentally responsible and beneficial for the community, mobile food vending operators and local businesses alike.

Background

Mobile food vending vehicles, or food trucks, have long been popular overseas and in recent years have gained traction in Sydney and across Australia, offering distinctive and flavoursome food in unique locations.

They provide the vendor with a business model with reduced establishment costs to commence, whilst offering the community a needed service at selected sites as well as unique food experience and ability to taste foods from across the globe at inexpensive prices.

Mobile food vending vehicles have the ability to increase economic activity within an area, add atmosphere and vibrancy to otherwise quiet spaces and support small business to grow and potentially thrive in a safe environment.

Site Locations

The initial site locations are enclosed in Appendix 2 and are subject to contextual approval. The draft policy also allows future and ongoing changes to this list. These next steps in the process include future and ongoing community feedback that will further refine mobile food vending locations.

We are always looking for feedback so let us know if you have any concerns or ideas to improve the proposed draft policy.
