Community Net Zero Plan 2024-2033

Blue Mountains City Council is working with residents, businesses and community groups to deliver a Community Net Zero Plan for the Blue Mountains.

This is a community project supported by Council to provide individuals, households, businesses, and groups with realistic actions and timeframes to reduce emissions, improve health and quality of life, while reducing the cost of living.

Why is a Community Net Zero Plan needed?

The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released in March 2023, warns us the climate time bomb is ticking. According to António Guterres Secretary-General United Nations, “The report is a clarion call to massively fast track climate efforts by every country and every sector on every time frame. In short, our world needs climate action on all fronts, everything, everywhere, all at once.”

We know this is the critical decade to reduce emissions which is why Council has adopted the target of net zero emissions from operations by the end of 2025 and has pledged to expand its focus into community emissions reduction starting with the development of a Community Net Zero Plan. This will provide us with a collaborative pathway to a zero emissions future.
