Blue Mountains City Council is seeking comment on its Asset Naming Policy. This policy is used in the naming of assets across the City. Nominations for new or amended assets names will be assessed in accordance with the criteria as outlined, in a fair and equitable manner, and will be subject to Council resolution.
The Policy seeks to recognise historical and cultural significance as well as outstanding achievement in the community, by a former resident and/or community group of the Blue Mountains, through the commemorative naming and renaming of geographical features, Council facilities and, where applicable, certain assets of other agencies. It provides the means to acknowledge the importance of place, acts of bravery, community service and exceptional accomplishment by both individuals and groups. It provides a consistent, transparent and fair approach through the application of specific criteria.
This Policy applies to:
Bridges
Parks, Playgrounds, Ovals, Reserves, and Recreational Facilities
Buildings/Facilities/Rooms
Carparks
Lookouts and Shelters
Footpaths, Bike Paths, Tracks and Trails
Geographical Features (e.g. Rock Formations, Waterfalls)
Certain assets of other agencies
Road naming and road re-naming
Street Addressing This Policy does not apply to:
Place naming (Town/Village)
Memorials
Assets not within Blue Mountains LGA
After the submission period, Council officers will consider all submissions received, amend the policies if necessary and report back to Council in July 2023.
